You’re engaged! Congratulations!

Whether the question was popped this Valentine’s day or you’ve been  engaged for a while, its never too early to get excited about planning your dream wedding!

Here are 5 tips to get you starred when choosing your wedding flowers for the big day

  • Preferences

The fun part! Here is where you can wade through images and narrow down your preferences in colour, style and flower choices. Try and reduce it down to three or four images to show your florist and together you can work out what suits your big day.

  • Season

These days, many flowers can be sourced all year round but finding flowers that are in season will help ensure you have the pick of the crop. Using seasonal flowers at their natural peak sets a more harmonious look and gives you more ‘bang for your buck’!  If you opt for flowers that are out of season, you may be limited with choice and you can expect to pay over the odds. Your florist will be able to guide you regarding seasonal availability.

  • The Wedding party outfits

Teaming  your flowers to suit the outfits is common sense. If the brides dress is full and ostentatious, you may opt for a simple understated posy to avoid the risk of overkill on detail. In contrast, if your dress is simple, you may prefer to have a bold statement bouquet.

  • Venue / Location

In Devon, we are lucky enough to have a huge variety of wedding venues from slick city hotels to rustic barns; quirky coastal lighthouses to quiet country pubs. Your venue choice may steer your floral display preferences, for instance,  striking tropical arrangements may look a little out of place in an elegant country house however, rules are meant to be broken!

  •    Budget

The majority of couples have a strict wedding budget and a good florist will be able to come up with plenty of ideas to fit within that however, it is important to be realistic. If you are keeping the purse strings tight but have ideas of Harry and Megan’s floral arch, be prepared to compromise. Make a list of your ‘essential’ flowers and a list of ‘would be nice’ flowers. Your florist should be more than happy to work with you to make sure your finances do not run away with you.
